Are you mattress shopping and wondering about latex mattress benefits?

Natural latex mattresses have become increasingly popular, and with good reason. Those who wish to move away from synthetic materials found in traditional memory foam mattresses are gravitating towards latex.

But what exactly is natural latex? And what are the pros and cons to choosing a latex mattress? We dive into both these questions and more below.

What is a Latex Mattress?

A latex mattress is made with layers of natural latex. Sap from rubber trees is harvested and baked into cozy sheets that act as the core of the mattress.

There are two types of natural latex: Dunlop and Talalay. Most mattress brands only offer one but there are some brands that offer both.

Dunlop is the denser of the two. It is excellent for those who like a firmer mattress, or have nerve-related back pain. It is also an economical choice for guest bedrooms since it’s very easy to create a neutral feel at a lower price point than its counterpart, Talalay latex.

Talalay is known for its cradling feel and offers exceptional pressure point relief. It is a popular choice for side sleepers who want their hip and shoulder to gently sink into the mattress while still allowing for plenty of support. It is more expensive than Dunlop because it is flash frozen before it is baked. This allows for a more consistent feel and cell structure overall.

Learn more about these two types of latex here.

Latex Mattress Pros and Cons

So, you are making your pro/con list and need some help. Here are the major points to consider when thinking of the pros and cons of a latex mattress.

Pros

Here are a few reasons why latex mattresses are popular.

Comfort

Latex mattresses are incredibly comfortable. They’re supportive but also offer pressure point relief so you get the best of both worlds.

If you are used to memory foam and like that sinking feeling, we don’t advise immediately transitioning to a firm latex mattress configuration since that will most likely be too firm. Instead, choose a top layer such as Soft Talalay latex that will give you that cradling feel. You can also add a mattress topper which will have a similar effect. We recommend The Vitality.

Organic/Natural

Natural latex is a sustainable alternative to polyurethane and memory foam. It is not synthetic or treated with harmful chemicals.

Natural latex is proof that Earth’s natural resources can result in a quality, durable product. It is healthier for both the customer and the planet.

We recommend choosing a latex mattress that is completely GOTS-certified organic as a finished product. This is one of the most impressive certifications in the mattress industry.

Other certifications to consider: Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), Cradle to Cradle GOLD, & Greenguard GOLD.Learn more about certifications here.

Customizable

Some latex mattresses are customizable, meaning you can create the exact feel you want in your mattress by choosing specific layers of latex. Dunlop and Talalay latex come in Soft, Medium, and Firm densities.

Couples should look for a mattress that allows for customization on both sides–that way no one has to compromise their comfort.

Pressure Relief

As previously mentioned, latex mattresses are excellent for pressure point relief, particularly Talalay latex mattresses.

If you’re a side sleeper, Talalay latex will cradle the hips and offer gentle support.

Sleep Cool

Memory foam traps your body heat. It is this chemical reaction between the foam and your body heat that allows the mattress to conform to your body’s curves. This is comfortable at first but will eventually cause you to wake up in the middle of the night, overheated and uncomfortable.

Natural latex offers pressure point relief without trapping your body heat, so you can sleep cooler throughout the night.

Durable

Latex mattresses are designed to last. Besides the downside of overheating with memory foam, synthetic foams eventually have a difficult time bouncing back, leading to dips in the mattress.

While there are always exceptions to the rule, this is not as prevalent of an issue with latex mattresses, especially if you choose latex layers that support your weight and sleep position.

Latex mattresses also typically have longer warranties than polyurethane foam or memory foam mattresses. The longer the warranty, the more confidence you can have in the durability of the product.

Cons

There are certainly more pros than cons to latex mattresses but here are two cons to consider.

Heavy

Latex is on the heavier side and cannot be supported by a traditional box spring. It requires a platform bed with slats about 2-3” apart or a slatted foundation that takes the place of a box spring. This not only gives the mattress the support it needs, but it also allows the latex to breathe.

Price

Latex mattresses are more expensive than polyurethane and memory foam mattresses. This is because of the natural and organic materials, certifications, and level of customization.

If you can afford a latex mattress, it’s worth the investment for both your comfort and health.

Eco-Friendly Furniture: What to Look For When Shopping https://savvyrest.com/blog/eco-friendly-furniture-what-to-look-for-when-shopping/ Tue, 06 Jun 2023 19:03:59 +0000 https://savvyrest.com/?p=102944 Tips and recommendations for natural furniture.

Shopping for eco-friendly furniture but don’t know what to actually look for? We can help.

Sustainable furniture is becoming more and more prominent, and with good reason. Our planet is precious and we can choose to support businesses that are making a difference by utilizing natural materials and responsible manufacturing practices.

Whether you are looking for eco-friendly platform beds or sustainable living room furniture, we have some tips and recommendations.

What is Eco-Friendly Furniture?

Eco-friendly furniture is made of organic and natural materials that are safe for the planet. Furniture manufacturers should also not be exposed to dangerous chemicals off gassing into their work environment. The furniture should have a low-VOC or zero-VOC footprint and the resources used should be sustainably-sourced.

Eco-Friendly Furniture Materials

Here are some materials to look for…

 • Organic cotton
 • Organic wool
 • Natural latex
 • Organic hemp
 • Sustainably-sourced wood
 • Zero-VOC finishes
 • Natural jute webbing
 • Coir

Furniture Materials & Chemicals to Avoid

 • Polyester
 • Formaldehyde
 • Polyurethane foam
 • Conventional cotton treated with pesticides and/or bleach

Sustainable Bedroom Furniture

When shopping for sustainable bedroom furniture, the main focus is of course the bed. There are various options for an eco-friendly bed but we recommend focusing on a platform bed with sustainably-sourced wood and zero-VOC finishes. Choose something simple and timeless that is built to last. You will truly get your money’s worth!

If you want a platform bed with a headboard, we recommend The Esmont.

This platform bed is available in two different headboard heights, as well as two different styles (slatted or solid).

If you want something more simple without a headboard, we recommend The Afton.

This platform bed is very easy to assemble and requires no tools.

Both eco-friendly platform beds are made in the United States using sustainably-sourced maple and poplar wood. They are available in the following finishes: linseed oil, cedar, mahogany, and walnut. An unfinished option is also available.

Sustainable Living Room Furniture

The main furniture piece in the living room is the sofa (or loveseat if you have a smaller space).

Eco-friendly living room furniture will be made with organic upholstery and a core that is natural rather than synthetic (so no memory foam!).

We love the Verona organic sofa because it is made of the highest quality natural materials, is manufactured in the United States, and uses Cradle to Cradle GOLD-certified natural Talalay latex as the core of the sofa that is both incredibly comfortable and environmentally-conscious.

You can shop the full Verona furniture line, along with sustainable wood furniture (coffee tables and benches) here.

Sustainable Furniture is the Future

Eco-friendly furniture companies are becoming more popular as consumers continue to show their appreciation for sustainable products.

Companies both big and small are putting in the work to earn organic material certifications and recognition for eco-friendly manufacturing practices while still maintaining high quality, durable products that will last. Certifications such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and the familiar B Corp symbol give customers peace of mind that they are voting with their dollars for businesses making a positive impact.

Happy shopping and thank you for supporting businesses who don’t simply focus on profit, but on the bigger picture.

How Often Should You Replace Your Mattress? https://savvyrest.com/blog/how-often-should-you-replace-your-mattress/ Fri, 10 Mar 2023 09:56:00 +0000 https://savvyrest.com/?p=97718 What you need to know.

The post How Often Should You Replace Your Mattress? appeared first on Savvy Rest.

]]>
“When should I replace my mattress?” This is a question that is asked frequently and in order to answer it, we need to consider a few different factors.

Sleep should always be a priority since it deeply affects our physical and mental health. Your mattress has a significant role in the quality of your sleep–an uncomfortable mattress can cause all sorts of havoc.

Here’s what you need to look out for when deciding whether it’s time to replace your mattress.

When to Replace Your Mattress

There are a few signs that indicate when it’s time to replace your mattress.

Let’s review some clues…

 • Signs of wear and tear
 • Dips and sags
 • No longer supportive or comfortable
 • Need to upgrade to larger size

Is it okay to sleep on an old mattress?

First of all, we need to define what is “old.” This really varies based on the quality of the materials used.

If your mattress is 15 years old, but it’s made of natural latex, then you might not need to replace it just yet!

Yes, a 15-year-old mattress sounds kind of old, but natural latex can last 20 years if taken care of properly, sometimes even longer.

If your mattress is 15 years old and made of a low quality memory foam, it may have noticeable dips and sags, or you may have noticed it makes you sleep hot due to the foam retaining body heat. While it’s possible for a memory foam mattress to last 15 years, it typically needs to be replaced before then.

Natural latex layers from a Savvy Rest organic mattress.

Factors to Consider When Replacing Your Mattress

So, you’ve decided it’s time to replace your mattress! Here are a few points to consider when mattress shopping…

Materials

Your mattress will last longer if you choose quality materials that are durable, supportive, and comfortable.

We recommend opting for natural latex. You can learn about the difference between natural latex and memory foam here.

Sleep Preferences

When replacing your mattress, you need to think about your sleep position.

If you are a stomach sleeper, you will need a firmer mattress to avoid arching your back and waking up in pain.

If you are a side sleeper, you will need a mattress that offers pressure point relief for your hip and shoulder.

If you are a back sleeper, you will most likely need a medium-firm feel that offers enough support.

Always consult with the customer service team so they can offer a recommendation based on your exact needs!

Budget

If you have a substantial budget, we always recommend opting for a natural latex mattress since this worthy investment will most likely last you 20+ years.

If you want a quality mattress but your budget isn’t large enough to purchase a natural latex mattress, we recommend opting for a hybrid mattress that still has natural latex but also includes wrapped coils to decrease the cost.

A hybrid mattress containing natural latex and coils offers plenty of support and is designed to last for years, but at a more accessible price point when compared to mattresses only containing latex cores.

Tips for Extending the Life of Your Mattress

Want your mattress to last? Follow these suggestions…

Use a Mattress Protector

One of the most important things you can do to protect your mattress is use a mattress pad or protector!

We recommend using an organic waterproof mattress protector to stop spills and stains from damaging your mattress.

While you don’t need to wash your mattress protector every week if no “accidents” have occurred, you should wash it about once every 1-2 months to keep it fresh.

Use the Proper Foundation

This tip is especially for natural latex mattresses: Make sure your mattress is properly supported with the right mattress foundation or platform bed.

A natural latex mattress must have enough sturdy support and airflow. We recommend slats about 2-3 inches apart, or if you are using a completely solid base, adding a bed rugto promote air circulation.

Regardless of what type of mattress you choose, you should always make sure it is placed on a strong base that will support both you and the mattress.

Avoid Heating Pads or Electric Blankets (Latex Mattress)

If you are using a natural latex mattress, don’t use a heating pad or electric blanket in bed. This can cause the latex to “bake” and oxidize more quickly, significantly decreasing the lifespan of your mattress.

Is it time to replace your mattress?

If you believe it is, make sure to opt for an organic mattress designed for your health and comfort. Shop Savvy Rest organic mattresses below!

Down Pillows vs Down Alternatives: What is Best For You? https://savvyrest.com/blog/down-pillows-vs-down-alternatives-what-best-you/ Wed, 11 Jan 2023 22:03:00 +0000 https://savvyrest.com.local/?p=93776 The best pillow for your sleep routine.

The post Down Pillows vs Down Alternatives: What is Best For You? appeared first on Savvy Rest.

]]>
There are several factors to consider when looking at down pillows vs down alternative pillows.

Is down good for side sleepers?

How does durability compare between down vs down alternative pillows?

What are other options similar to down and are they eco-friendly and/or plant-based?

We explore these questions below.

What is a Down Pillow?

A down pillow is filled with feathers, typically from ducks or geese. It is super soft and fluffy, and shouldn’t contain any quills.

While down is plush and luxurious, it may not have enough support for side sleepers or back sleepers.

Organic kapok, a plant-based vegan alternative to down.

What are Alternatives to Down Pillows?

There are several alternatives available if you are vegan or simply don’t think down is the right choice for you. Here are a few…

 • Kapok
 • Polyester
 • Shredded Latex
 • Cotton
 • Tencel
 • Wool (not vegan friendly)

Choosing Your Pillow

It’s important to first ask yourself the qualities you are looking for in a pillow. For example, if you want a plant-based option, then you won’t want to choose a down pillow. If you think a down pillow is too soft, you will gravitate towards a pillow that has a firmer feel.

What material best mimics the feel of down and is also a vegan-friendly pillow?

If you want that fluffy feel without the feathers, we recommend organic kapok.

Kapok comes from the ceiba tree and looks similar to cotton. It is a plant-based fiber that has that luxurious softness but is cruelty-free.

Kapok is also slightly more structured than down so it is durable and supportive. A down pillow typically has to be replaced more frequently.

Kapok is also excellent for side sleepers, although if you want something slightly firmer, you may want to consider a natural latex pillow instead.

While synthetic fills are available that closely resemble the feel of down, we always lean towards opting for natural and/or certified organic materials rather than man-made materials that are potentially treated with harmful chemicals.

Consider Adjustable Pillows

Adjustable pillows are fantastic because you can control the overall height and feel of the pillow by removing as much of the fill as you’d like.

These fills are also available in body pillows.

Feather vs Foam Pillow https://savvyrest.com/blog/feather-vs-foam-pillow/ Thu, 01 Dec 2022 22:01:00 +0000 https://savvyrest.com.local/?p=93772 Know the difference between these popular pillow fills.

The post Feather vs Foam Pillow appeared first on Savvy Rest.

]]>
There are so many different types of pillows on the market, but two very popular ones are foam pillows and feather pillows.

But what exactly is a foam pillow? What does a feather pillow feel like? And how do you know which pillow is best for your needs?

We break down these different pillow materials below. Keep reading about foam vs feather pillows.

What is a Foam Pillow?

A foam pillow is typically rectangular in shape and offers plenty of support. Foam pillows are available in softer and firmer versions, depending on preference.

Types of Foam Pillows

 • Natural Latex
 • Memory Foam
 • Polyurethane Foam

We always recommend choosing natural latex, which is derived from rubber tree sap, rather than synthetic polyurethane or memory foam pillows. Natural latex also tends to sleep cooler without any added gels or harsh chemicals.

Talalay natural latex in particular has an open cell structure which makes it a very breathable pillow option. Check out our favorite Talalay latex pillow.

Benefits & Drawbacks of Foam

Wondering if a foam pillow is for you? Here is what you need to know.

Benefits

 • Supportive
 • Pressure-relieving
 • Cooler sleep
 • Available in various densities
 • Organic options available
 • Eco-friendly (natural latex)
 • Vegan

Drawbacks

 • Cannot always control height of pillow
 • Not the best option for those who like plush softness
 • Not lightweight
Choosing between a feather or foam pillow.

Benefits & Drawbacks of Feathers

Not sure if you want a feather pillow? Here is some helpful info.

Benefits

 • Very soft and plush in feel
 • Can move pillow around neck and shoulders
 • Lightweight

Drawbacks

 • Not vegan
 • Feathers may poke out of pillow
 • Typically does not offer firm support

If you are looking for a feather or down alternative that is plant-based, we personally recommend opting for an organic kapok pillow.

What’s best for you?

The choice is yours! But we always recommend choosing organic and natural materials that are safe for you and the planet.

We offer the following materials…

 • Natural Talalay latex
 • Organic Dunlop latex
 • Organic Wool
 • Organic Kapok

A mattress should be viewed as an investment for your health and overall comfort. When shopping, it’s important to pay attention to the durability of the materials used, as well as warranty details.

Latex mattresses have become incredibly popular in the mattress industry. But how long do latex mattresses last?

Whether you are asking because you are considering purchasing a latex mattress, or you already own one and would like to get an idea of how many years you can continue to enjoy it, we have all the information you need. Keep reading!

How long do latex mattresses last?

Latex mattresses last for years! It is standard to have a latex mattress for at least 10 years but quality latex mattresses will last beyond that at 20+ years. Yes, latex mattresses can last for 20 YEARS!

So although latex mattresses tend to be at a higher price point than polyurethane and memory foam mattresses, they are absolutely worth every penny because of their durability.

Durability of Latex vs Other Mattresses

Latex is known for being responsive while also maintaining its shape.

Some mattress materials, such as memory foam, retain body heat. It is the chemical reaction between the memory foam and your body heat that allows for the foam to mold to your body and give pressure point relief. However, the downside of that is over time, memory foam may have a difficult time bouncing back, causing dips and sags in the mattress.

Latex is incredibly durable and supportive while also offering pressure point relief. A latex mattress should not dip but if it does, this is typically covered in warranty agreements.

Natural Talalay latex

Benefits of Natural Latex

There is a long list of reasons why you should choose a natural latex mattress but here are a few big ones…

 • Breathable
 • Durable
 • Customizable
 • Long-term comfort
 • Organic options
 • Environmentally-friendly

When should you replace a latex mattress?

You shouldn’t have to worry about replacing your mattress for at least a decade or more, especially if you have taken good care of it.

Always remember to store your mattress in a temperature-regulated space. If a latex mattress is exposed to too much heat, the latex will oxidize and essentially break down much sooner than it should, lessening the lifespan of your mattress.

Never use heated blankets or heating pads while on your latex mattress. This too will damage the latex layers.

If you treat your latex mattress right, you will have it for many years.

A pillow is a key part of getting a good night’s sleep. However, we all have different needs when it comes to choosing a pillow and determining what is comfortable.

When shopping for a pillow, you should consider materials, shape, and firmness.

This blog post will define some popular pillow fills and then dive into one in particular: Dunlop latex.

 • Down
 • Feathers
 • Memory Foam (synthetic foam)
 • Polyurethane Foam (synthetic foam)

Why Dunlop?

Dunlop latex is a natural alternative to synthetic foams.

Latex sap is harvested from rubber trees. This sap is then baked to eventually create cozy mattresses and pillows without harsh chemicals or toxic off gassing.

Dunlop latex is incredibly comfortable and supportive, which is why it’s a popular choice when shopping for a formed pillow.

We recommend opting for Dunlop latex that is GOLS-certified (Global Organic Latex Standard).

Why You Should Get an Organic Crib Mattress https://savvyrest.com/blog/why-you-should-get-organic-crib-mattress/ Thu, 13 Jan 2022 05:00:00 +0000 https://savvyrest.com.local/why-you-should-get-an-organic-crib-mattress/ Creating a safe, natural nursery.

The post Why You Should Get an Organic Crib Mattress appeared first on Savvy Rest.

]]>
Getting the right mattress for your child is important, and it starts with their crib mattress. Conventional crib mattresses can be made of some harmful materials. Use safe, eco-friendly, & organic products for your baby’s natural nursery.

Lower Exposure to Toxins

Babies sleep 14-18 hours a day so it’s imperative that they are in a safe and healthy environment. Their organs are developing, their immune system is immature, and they are vulnerable to any chemicals or irritants they are breathing in or coming into contact with on a regular basis.

Babies and children breathe nearly FIVE TIMES the amount of dust as adults, and these dust particles act like tiny sponges that chemicals in the home latch onto.

Common crib mattresses are made with memory foam, polyurethane foam, synthetic fabrics, and treated with bleach, chemical flame retardants, or other harsh chemicals that offgas into the air.

Health Risks of VOCs

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can be found in materials such as synthetic fabrics, and glues, and they can release dangerous compounds. The United States Environmental Protection Agency lists the possible health effects of VOCs.

Here are just a few:

 • Allergic skin reactions
 • Dizziness
 • Dyspnea
 • Eye & respiratory tract irritation
 • Headaches
 • Nausea
 • Nose & throat discomfort

The American Lung Association states that breathing VOCs can “damage the central nervous system as well as other organs” and that some VOCs can cause cancer.

VOCs can affect both children and adults so a healthy home with non-toxic furniture, bedding, paints, rugs, etc can benefit the entire family.

There is no such thing as perfection and we cannot escape all toxic chemicals, nor should we obsess over every potential health hazard. We simply want to educate our readers that these chemicals do indeed exist and there are certain swaps we can make to reduce exposure.

Natural latex crib mattress

Firm Crib Mattress

Before getting into the natural materials we recommend when purchasing a crib mattress, let’s talk about the overall feel of the mattress.

A crib mattress must be firm and flat enough to offer proper support and stability. It is dangerous for a baby to sleep on a soft mattress. A baby should never sink into a mattress.

Also, make sure your crib is sturdy and meets modern safety standards. We recommend the Oeuf crib, which is GREENGUARD GOLD-certified and made using solid birch and non-toxic finishes.

Organic Crib Mattress Materials

We recommend choosing an organic crib mattress for your baby’s nursery that is made with either Dunlop or Talalay latex. The casing should be made of organic cotton to avoid cotton treated with bleach or pesticides.

The Savvy Baby™ crib mattress is GOTS-certified organic and made using firm organic Dunlop latex. The casing includes organic cotton and organic wool batting. The wool acts as a natural flame barrier.

Prefer natural Talalay latex? We have that option too.

Organic Waterproof Protector

We strongly recommend adding a waterproof protector to your natural crib mattress but it should be made with the safest materials possible!

Opt for an organic waterproof protector that is made without flame retardants, formaldehyde, perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), pesticides, or any other harmful chemicals.

A Natural Nursery

Creating a nursery is an exciting experience. We hope you enjoy shopping and find natural baby products that give you peace of mind as you start this new journey!

Comfort and style aren’t the only things to focus on when choosing a sofa. Sustainability should also be considered when shopping for furniture.

Living room furniture can be both elegant and eco-friendly, cozy and natural.

Bedroom furniture can be made using sustainable wood and zero-VOC stains.

You don’t have to compromise the aesthetic of your home when purchasing sustainable furniture. You can have it all.

Learn what makes furniture sustainable, which certifications and materials to look for, and how Savvy Rest natural furniture fits the criteria.

Why Sustainable Furniture?

First, why should we care about sustainable, eco-friendly furniture? Well, do you love the planet? You should!

Our day-to-day choices affect the health of our planet and so do the big purchases, like furniture for our homes.

Sustainable shopping practices lead to less waste ending up in landfills, less harmful chemicals seeping into our soil, and less trash making its way into our oceans.

When you choose an eco-friendly alternative, such as eco furniture, you’re making a difference.

Eco furniture for the organic home.

What Makes Furniture Sustainable?

Here are some guidelines to sustainable furniture.

Built to Last

Sustainable furniture is built to last. Furniture that is built to only withstand a few years is not sustainable because it will simply be tossed into a landfill instead of being utilized long-term.

Natural Materials

Sustainable furniture is also typically made of eco-friendly furniture materials such as…

 • Organic Cotton
 • Organic Hemp
 • Natural Latex
 • Organic Wool Batting
 • Recycled Coils
 • Sustainably-Sourced Wood

You should avoid…

 • Polyurethane foam
 • Memory foam
 • Toxic Glues

Sustainable Manufacturing & Certifications

Look for materials that are responsibly-sourced and furniture that is sustainably manufactured. An easy way to do this is through certifications, such as…

 • Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
 • Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS)
 • Cradle to Cradle GOLD
 • FSC-Certified
 • Appalachian Hardwood Verified Sustainable
 • B Corp
Natural platform bed made of sustainably-sourced wood.

 • GOTS-certified organic upholstery (your choice of hemp, hemp/cotton blend, or cotton duck)

 • Natural coir
 • Zero-VOC finishes

Coffee Tables & Benches

Savvy Rest also offers sustainable coffee tables and benches made of sustainably-sourced maple with your choice of zero-VOC stain.

Both items are available with or without an added shelf option, and are incredibly easy to assemble.

Natural Platform Beds

Savvy Rest’s most popular furniture items are sustainable platform beds, which are also simple to assemble.

The Afton platform bed requires no tools and does not include a headboard, while the Esmont requires minimal tools and includes a customizable headboard. Choose the height of the headboard (low vs original) and the style (slatted vs solid).

Materials include…

 • Sustainably-sourced maple and poplar wood
 • Zero-VOC stains
 • Solid steel, mortised-in corner brackets

Matching floating side tables are also available for purchase.

Considering an innerspring mattress but don’t know if it’s right for you? This blog post breaks down the differences between innerspring mattresses vs individually-wrapped coil mattresses.

Is one better than the other? Let’s find out.

What is an innerspring mattress?

An innerspring mattress is a mattress containing metal coil springs and some sort of comfort layer. This comfort layer could be natural latex, memory foam, polyurethane foam, or even wool.

Innerspring mattresses tend to be less expensive than foam mattresses.

What is an individually-wrapped coil mattress?

An individually-wrapped coil mattress is a great option for those looking for less motion transfer but still like that gentle “bounce” of a traditional coil mattress.

A wrapped coil mattress also contains a similar type of comfort layer as an innerspring mattress.

But why does a wrapped coil mattress have less motion transfer? Let’s break down these materials.

Individually-Wrapped Springs

These coil springs are individually encased rather than interlocked. The coils contour to your body’s curves, adding unparalleled responsiveness when compared to lower-end spring mattresses.

It is this simple difference that significantly decreases motion transfer and improves overall comfort.

Innersprings

Innersprings are definitely more affordable but that comes at a cost.

Bonnell springs are interconnected so if you share a bed with your partner, you will most likely feel them move during the night, which could interrupt your sleep.

Wrapped Coils vs Innersprings: Which is right for me?

If motion transfer is not a concern of yours and you wish to have the most economical mattress possible, then an innerspring mattress may be a good option.

However, if you want a higher quality mattress that offers pressure point relief and responsiveness, we recommend individually-wrapped coils.

Savvy Rest offers two wrapped coil mattresses that are completely customizable, meaning you can choose the type of natural latex (Dunlop or Talalay), the latex density (Soft, Medium, or Firm), and the coils density (Plush or Firm).

Not only are you getting a higher quality natural mattress, but you are also getting the benefit of controlling the overall feel of the mattress, giving you a truly comfortable experience.

Each side of the mattress can also differ for Queen, King, and CA King sizes.

The SerenitySpring is our most wrapped coil mattress with a height of 12 inches.

The TranquilitySpring is our lower-profile option with a height of 8 inches.

Happy shopping!
